How We Judge

What makes a grand casino-hotel.

I

The casino floor

How good and how refined the gaming is — the tables, the high-limit rooms and the slots — and how it feels to play in a grand setting.

II

The rooms

The comfort and character of the rooms and suites, and whether the hotel is a destination in its own right.

III

Dining & extras

The restaurants, the spa, the pool, the views — everything beyond the floor that fills a weekend.

IV

Location & value

Where it sits, how easy it is to reach, and whether the whole experience is worth the trip.

Side by Side

All five, side by side.

Good to Know

Grand casino-hotel questions.

Which is the most luxurious casino-hotel in Canada?

In our view, Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu in Charlevoix — a grand copper-roofed chateau above the St. Lawrence, with an elegant casino attached — is the most luxurious, and it tops our ranking.

Are these hotels adults-only?

The casinos are strictly for adults: every venue here operates a 21+ door policy with photo ID checked at entry. Families can still stay at the hotels, but the gaming floor is adults-only.

Is the legal gambling age really 21?

No — 21+ is the door policy we found at these venues, not the legal minimum. Canada's legal minimum is set by each province (18 or 19); always check the venue's own current rules before you travel.

Do you take bookings or run a casino?

No. Regent & Royale is an independent editorial guide. We take no bookings, hold no funds and run no gaming, and this is not an online casino — every rating is our own opinion.

How do you score the hotels?

We judge each hotel on four measures — the casino floor, the rooms, dining and extras, and location and value — and score out of ten. Facts are approximate and change, so confirm current details with the hotel.

A grand stay stays fun.

A casino-hotel should be entertainment first, however grand the surroundings. We only recommend visiting within your means — and every venue here is strictly adults-only, with ID at the door.
